Week of August 29th - September 2nd
1. A. Argument (noun) - a exchange between opposite views. B. The two men had an argument over who should be president, but neither of them could give good reasons why they think Donald Trump or Hillary Clinton should be president. C. Picture - Argument 2. A. Cite (verb) - Quote (a passage, book, or author) as evidence for or justification of an argument or statement, especially in a scholarly work. B. We have to cite all of the websites we use for projects, but we can not cite things off the website. C. Picture - Cite 3. A. Passive Voice (noun) - the noun or noun phrase that would be the object of an active sentence appears as the subject of the sentence with passive voice. B. When using passive voice you can not be doing something because that is active voice. C. Picture - Passive Voice 4. A. Personification (noun) - the attribution of a personal nature or human characteristics to something nonhuman. B. A story that has personification is fiction because animals can't talk. C. Picture - Personification 5. A. Point of View (noun) - the narrators position in relation to the story being told. B. The story was told in Cassie's point of view, so we do not know what her brothers are thinking. C. Picture - Point of View Week of September 3 - September 9 6. A. Collaborate (verb) - to work, one with another. B. I will collaborate will my fellow classmates when we have a project that we will have to work on together. C. Picture - Collaborate 7. A. Articulate (adjective) - Uttered clearly in distinct syllables. B. I was very articulate because the woman had trouble hearing. C. Picture - Articulate 8. A. Evolve (verb) - to develop gradually. B. I have evolved since kindergarten because I have learned many new things. C. Picture - Evolve 9. A. Meticulous (adjective) - very careful and precise. B. I was very meticulous when I had on my new outfit because I did not want to get it dirty. C. Picture - Meticulous 10. A. Agile (adjective) - Quick and well-coordinated in movement. B. He was very agile during the first quarter, but then was slow and lost focus after that. C. Picture - Agile Week of September 12 - 16 11. A. Hypotenuse (noun) - the longest side of a right triangle, opposite the right angle. B. For homework we had to find the hypotenuse of right triangles, which is the longest side of right triangles. C. Picture - Hypotenuse 12. A. Converse (noun) - Switching the hypothesis and conclusion of a conditional statement. B. The converse of "It is cold and it is snowing" is " It is snowing and it is cold C. Picture - Converse 13. A. Irrational numbers (noun) - a real number that cannot be expressed as a ratio of integers. B. Pi is a famous irrational number because you cannot write down a simple fraction that equals Pi. C. Picture - Irrational numbers 14. A. Rational numbers (noun) - any number that can be expressed as the quotient or fraction. B. 1.5 is a rational number because it can be written as 3/2. C. Picture - Rational numbers 15. A. Square root (noun) - a number that produces a specified quantity when multiplied by itself. B. The square root of 49 is 7 because 7 x 7 = 49. C. Picture - Square root Week of September 19 - September 23 16. A. Elastic Potential Energy (noun) - Energy stored in any object or material that is bent, stretched, or compressed. B. A rubber band is an example of elastic potential energy because when you stretch the rubber band it stores energy in it. C. Picture - Elastic Potential Energy 17. A. Newton (noun) - The unit in the metric system used to measure force. B. In science we had to learn newton, so we could learn how to measure force. C. Picture - Newton 18. A. Force Field (noun) - An area around an object where an object can influence another object with out touching it. A magnetic field is an example of this. B. We learned about magnetic fields, and that a magnetic field is a force field. C. Picture - Force Field 19. A. Inertia (noun) - How hard it is to get something to stop moving, stop a moving object, or change the direction of a moving object. B. An example of inertia is a ball rolling down a hill because it will not stop unless friction or another force stops it. C. Picture - Inertia 20. A. Normal Force (noun) - A equal but opposite force that pushes back when you stand, sit, or push on a surface so you do not sink through that surface. B. When I sit on chair, I do not fall through it because of normal force. C. Picture - Normal Force Week of September 26th - September 30th 21. A. Accept (verb) - Consent to receive. B. Although I had to miss the birthday party, I had to accept that you will not always get your way in life. C. Picture - Accept 22. A. Except (verb) - not including B. I invited everyone to the campfire except Luke because he was being mean. C. Picture - Except 23. A. Affect (verb) - Make a difference to. B. I hope to affect someone's life in a positive way because the world needs more kind people in it. C. Picture - Affect 24. A. Effect (noun) - A change that is a result or consequence of an action or other cause. B. When Judy built her house in the woods she effected the owl population because she cut down trees to make room for her house. C. Picture - Effect 25. A. Principle (noun) - A fundamental truth or proposition that serves as the foundation for a system of belief or behavior or for a chain of reasoning. B. A principle is like a law and that serves as the foundations for many peoples beliefs. C. Picture - Principle Week of October 3rd - October 7th 26. A. Allusion (noun) - An indirect or passing reference. B. An example of an allusion is like the Karate Kid and Hercules because they both do the same pose during the movie. C. Picture - Allusion 27. A. Onomatopoeia (noun) - The formation of a word from a sound associated with what it is named. B. Boom, bang, and pow are an example of an onomatopoeia and an onomatopoeia is a sound associated with what it is named. C. Picture - Onomatopoeia 28. A. Alliteration (noun) - The occurrence of the same letter or sound at the beginning of adjacent or closely connected words. B. When we were little we learned the saying Peter Picked a Peck of Pickled Peppers and that is an example of an Alliteration. C. Picture - Alliteration 29. A. Irony (noun) - The expression of one's meaning by using language that normally signifies the opposite, typically for humorous effect. B. The sign was an example of irony because it said it was always open, but the store was closed. C. Picture - Irony 30. A. Figurative (adjective) - Departing from a literal use of words; metaphorical. B. We are studying figurative language in class, and we are learning about metaphors and similes. C. Picture - Figurative

Make sure you number your vocabulary 1 - 20 etc. not restart each week
